The long Memorial Day weekend is a time to honor all those that died while serving in the armed forces. This list provides 15 activities for kiddos in Chicago during the long weekend. You don’t want to miss the Memorial Day parade on Saturday which kicks off with a wreath laying ceremony.  It is a wonderful parade to show support and honor those who served and died.  A great way to kickstart the long weekend. Other fun events include a magic show, Mole de Mayo street festival in Pilsen and Bike the Drive to name a few.  Enjoy the long weekend!

Daily Activities at Lincoln Park Zoo

What: Lincoln Park is always a fun adventure with the kiddos.  They make it even more fun with daily activities to keep kiddos engaged with the animals. The following are some fun activities scheduled daily to enhance your visit to the Zoo.

Cow Milking
Location: Farm-in-the-Zoo
See how a typical family farm combines rural life with modern technology to milk its Holstein dairy cows.

11 a.m.
Meet an Animal
Location: Regenstein Small Mammal-Reptile House
From nose to tail, scales to fur, the zoo’s ambassador animals offer a hands-on connection with wildlife.

1:30 p.m.
Ape Cognition and Care
Location: Regenstein Center for African Apes
Join us at Regenstein Center for African Apes to see how gorillas and chimpanzees participate in their own care.

2:30 p.m.
Free Flight Feeding
Location: McCormick Bird House
View birds from around the world as they flock together during this live feeding.

3 p.m.
Cow Milking
Location: Farm-in-the-Zoo
See how a typical family farm combines rural life with modern technology to milk its Holstein dairy cows.

Baby Disco Party at Little Beans

What: Join us for a disco party. We’ll have a DJ and dancing under the disco lights, a costume contest, glowing snacks, play and pizza.

Lurie Garden Tour

What: Visit our information tent to get your questions answered or take a short guided tour to learn about the Lurie Garden’s design and history, our perennial plans, and the wildlife that fills the garden. Tours last approximately 20 minutes and depart every 15-20 minutes. 

The Lurie Garden is located at the southeastern end of Millennium Park. No registration required.

Kids Eat Free at Pizzeria Frasco

What: Frasca is a neighborhood Italian restaurant that is very kid friendly.  Their specialties include pizzas, hearty pastas and an extensive selection of wine. The main dining room is open and inviting with comfortable leather banquets, wood tables and large retractable windows, perfect for a cozy winter’s night or family dining. 

The menu includes a kids menu for dinner and brunch.  Kids are treated to crayons and coloring pages to keep them entertained.

Date/Time: Kids eat FREE Daily from 4:30 to 6 PM.

Cost: Free. Kids eat FREE is limited to ages 12 and under. Two kids meals free with each paying adult, kids must choose from the kids menu.

Memorial Day Parade

What: Chicago's Memorial Day Parade honors all men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country.

The Wreath Laying Ceremony will begin at 11am at the Eternal Flame on Daley Plaza (Dearborn and Washington Streets). The parade will step off at noon and proceed south on State Street from Lake Street to Van Buren Street. The Chicago parade is considered one of the largest Memorial Day parades in the nation. Since 1870, Memorial Day parades have graced the streets of Chicago.

Mole de Mayo Street Festival

What: Being held at Ashland and 18th Street in Chicago’s historic Pilsen neighborhood, the 7th annual Mole de Mayo festival will feature mole, pitting local chefs and restaurants against one another to find out whose version of the Mexican staple is best. 

In addition, the outdoor festival will also feature a number of the city’s finest food vendors, an open-air Mercado/Market that will be filled to the brim with local Pilsen businesses and crafters.

Date/Time: Friday May 27, Sunday May 28 and Sunday May 29, 2016. Friday 5pm – 10pm, Saturday & Sunday 12pm – 10pm.

Concert for Kids

What: Join Beat Kitchen, an eclectic bar and grill with a fun concert space in the back. Come early and have some brunch with the family and then head to the concert space for a super fun and exciting kids concert! Kids Concert is full of music, song and dance so make sure you have your dancing shoes on. Listed below is schedule of performers.

Family and Kids Yoga

What: Open to all ages! It is recommended that children are at least walking to be able to fully participate in this class, pre-walking siblings are always welcome to join their older siblings. Introduce yoga to your kids at a young age! Our family class incorporates breathing, dancing, partner poses, games, story time and relaxation so that the whole family can enjoy the benefits of yoga.

What: Every Sunday from 5 – 7pm, kids can make their own pizza for free.  It is an awesome deal as they offer three free kids meals for every adult meal purchased.  Each kiddo can design his or her own pizza, baked by a Foodlife chef.  To top it off, they can eat their creations while enjoying a classic kids movie on the big screen.  How cool is that!? And, adults can purchase a meal from any of the kitchens within Foodlife.  So, if your kiddo is craving pizza, this is the place to be! What a great way to spice up your Sunday night!

Open Family Jump at Pump it Up

What: Join us on Memorial Day Monday for a 2 hour Open Jump event. Keep busy before all the BBQs and fireworks kick off. $12 per child, includes 2 hours in Arenas A and B. Free Morning Glories

What: Enjoy learning together with your little one during this weekly drop-in session. Activities are fun, interactive, and encourage children’s curiosity about the natural world. Children and their care-givers rotate to different stations around the Children’s Garden. Stations include planting projects, soil digging stations, tours, story-time, and more. Adult supervision is required for participation in the Morning Glories Program.
