This weekend in Chicago calls for mild and sunny weather!  The perfect time to get out and engage in some active fun with the whole family! A few free concerts to choose from at Lincoln Park Zoo, Chicago Cultural Center and Garfield Park Conservatory.  Concerts are a great way to get the kiddos engaged in active fun and musical play. Other options include storytime, family fishing day or free crafts at the library.  Take a look below for some ideas!  Enjoy!

FRIDAY, MAY 18, 2018

Sing Along with Mr. Singer 

What: Come get connected! Sing, dance and clap your hands with Chicago’s beloved Mr. Singer every Wednesday and Friday at 9:15 and 10 a.m. in the Main Barn of Lincoln Park Zoo’s Farm-in-the-Zoo. Join Mr. Singer as he performs original songs while the wee ones dance and sing along. This joyful jamboree features animal songs and dances for children ages 6 and younger accompanied by a caregiver. Every show features a Kids’ choice and a Grown-ups' choice” giving you the opportunity to request your favorite sing-along song. Let’s have fun!

Little Miss Ann Concert

What: Ann Torralba, best known as Little Miss Ann, has been teaching Wiggleworms at the Old Town School of Folk Music since 2004. With her husband, she has created two children’s CDs, Music for Tots and Clap for Love–both named in the Top 10 on About.com’s Children’s Music Guide. She has been featured in many publications including the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Parent,and WXRT Little Rockers.

Beauty and the Beast 

What: Meet Bella, an adventurous young woman who ventures from her little village to save her Papa. She must be brave as she enters the Beast’s castle in the forest. There, Bella will encounter enchanted characters and the mysterious Beast himself. Can Beauty see through the Beast’s gruff exterior and discover his true nature? This show runs one hour with no intermission. All CKC productions feature professional actors, colorful scenery and costumes, sing-along songs, and plenty of audience participation.

MSI Sensory Science Club

What: Calling all scientists! Join us for Work in Progress: Building with the Engineering Design Cycle. This five week sensory series features hands-on activities focused on exploring the science of building and design. This program is being sponsored by the Museum of Science and Industry and ScienceConnections through the generous support of Peoples Gas.

Age: Scientists of all abilities, ages 7 and up are welcome.

Date/Time: We'll be meeting on Saturdays, May 19 & 26, June 2, 9 & 16. 2PM to 3PM. Attendance in all five sessions is strongly encouraged. Registration is required.

Family Fishing at Northerly Island

What: Learn how to fish Chicago's Lake Front Harbor at Northerly Island Park during Family Fishing! Perfect for Families with children ages 8 years old and up, this two hour class includes in-class instruction and on-the-water fishing. Professional Instruction is provided by Chicago's Fish 'N' Kids Program Fishing Instructors. Fishing instruction, equipment and bait are provided.

Family/Kids Yoga 

What: Introduce yoga to your kids at a young age! Our family class incorporates breathing, dancing, partner poses, games, story time and relaxation so that the whole family can enjoy the benefits of yoga.

Age: It is recommended that children are at least 'walking and talking' to be able to fully participate in this class, pre-walking siblings are always welcome to join their older siblings

What: Chicago, the “City in a Garden,” has more than 8,000 acres of green space! Have you ever been to one of Chicago's parks? Join us from 12pm to 3pm to visit Maggie Daley Park and collaborate as a group to design your own LEGO park.

PAWS Chicago’s Angels with Tails Gold Coast Adoption Event 

What: On Sunday, May 20, PAWS Chicago, the Midwest's largest No Kill humane organization, along with six other shelters and rescue organizations, will bring the faces of Chicago’s homeless animals to the Gold Coast community for our annual life-saving adoption event! More than 100 homeless puppies, kittens, dogs and cats will be available for adoption at 40 retailers along Oak Street, Rush Street, Delaware Place and Walton Street from noon-4 p.m.
