A hidden gem in the heart of the city, Lurie Garden in Millennium Park, is literally an urban oasis! Its ecology and landscape design makes you forget that you are in the middle of a vibrant and busy city! You can come to the garden on any day of the week to stroll leisurely on a beautiful day but what many don’t know is the vast number of enrichment programs they offer for kids and family.  Best of all, it is FREE!  Everything from a music sing along class, art class to learning about insects!  How cool is that? Some require pre-registering online while others are walk up, no registration.  So, make sure to enrich your kid’s summer by taking advantage of some of these free programs below.  Let us know what you think!

Enjoy a morning filled with nature-based stories, music and movement with your little ones! Teaching artist Tisa Batchelder will lead you and your child on an interactive musical journey so come fly like a butterfly, sing like a sparrow and explore the beauty of the Lurie Garden. Come visit the Fox Valley Wildlife Center at the Lurie Garden! Observe common urban reptiles and mammals, learn about their habitat, adaptations and the challenges that they face this urban environment. This is a drop-in, all ages event, no registration required. The Fox Valley Wildlife Center provides hospital care for wild animals who are in need of help. Most of the animals that we receive have been impacted by man in some way.

Guided Pollinator Walk

August 18 @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

Join Conservancy scientists in the Lurie Garden on August 18 for a chance to see and learn about the wide variety of native and non-native pollinators that thrive right here in Illinois. The walk will take place mid-day, when insects tend to be most active. We’ll be on the look-out for various types of bees, wasps, butterflies, beetles and other species. Dress appropriately for the weather, including a hat and sunscreen. Short-range binoculars might be helpful. Children are welcome.
