Green Music Fest

What: Is dad a socially conscious, hip and eco-minded guy who loves music and food? Well, this street festival will be the perfect fit for dad! Reflecting the progressive and eco-minded Wicker Park-Bucktown community, Green Music Fest fuses original live music with environmental and social activism, sustainable and stylish local retail, arts, crafts, and food.

Green Music Fest challenges its audience to use their minds as well as their bodies by harnessing the power of bicycles as a resource for education. In addition to our people-powered bicycle stage, free bike parking will be offered throughout the weekend as well as other ways to participate and empower Chicago's cyclist community.

Father’s Day Weekend Fishing Derby

What: Fish, food, fun and fathers will be featured at the Schaumburg Park District's Father's Day Weekend Fishing Derby at Volkening Lake. Prizes will be awarded for shortest fish, longest fish, most fish caught and most unique catch for each age group. Age groups consist of 3-5, 6-8, 9-12, 13-17 years and a father's group. 

Everyone receives a hot dog, chips and soda. Participants must bring their own poles and bait.

Cost: Pre-registration ends at 4 p.m. on June 17. Pre-registration is $10 for residents and $15 for non-residents. Day-of registration is $15 for residents and $20 for non-residents.

Father’s Day Canoe Adventure

What: How’s this for a unique way to spend part of Father’s Day? In partnership with Friends of the Chicago River, the Garden invites you to participate in a rare opportunity to canoe the lakes of the Chicago Botanic Garden. Herons, ducks, small fish, and maybe even a few turtles and frogs will greet you as we explore their watery habitat. No experience with canoeing is necessary; instruction, canoes, life jackets, and paddles are all provided. Please choose one of the start times that are scheduled. You’ll enjoy a full hour canoeing the lakes of Chicago Botanic Garden. Be sure to register early, as this event always sells out!

Maximum of three participants per boat. Participants must be at least 5 years old and those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Cost: $57 per person. Members receive a 20 percent discount.
