Cupcake Decorating Class at Give Me Some Sugar!
Luckily for us, this weekend is going to be sunny and beautiful! There is lots to do in Chicago with the kiddos in tow. Start off the weekend with a fun cupcake decorating class at Give Me Some Sugar! Kiddos can learn how to decorate cupcakes, 6 cupcakes in all.  Best of all, it is yours to take home and devour! Or enjoy the lovely weather by checking out the Green City Farmers Market in Lincoln Park, great place to stroll with the kids, buy produce/pastries and take part in Club Sprouts. Or, maybe you need to relax and unwind with the kiddos with a family yoga class at Tula Yoga. Enjoy the weekend!

Kids Cupcake Decorating Class

What: Looking for a fun after-school activity for the kids? Need some time for yourself? Bring the kids to Give Me Some Sugar for cupcake fun. Kids will learn basic decorating techniques and take their creations home. This event is for 8 - 12 year-olds and each will have six cupcakes to decorate.

FREE Juicebox Concert

What: With engaging music and dance in a kid-friendly setting, the FREE admission Juicebox programs are geared toward the stroller set and enjoyable for the whole family. Children will experience a diverse range of artistic and educational presentations, with hosts regularly inviting youngsters to move, dance and interact with performers. Presented by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, the Juicebox series runs on alternating Fridays at the Chicago Cultural Center.

Little Miss Ann Kids Concert

What: Little Miss Ann is a veteran instructor at the Old Town School of Folk Music and one of Chicago’s Favorite kids musicians. She has made 4 upbeat, yet down-to-earth folk rock kids cd’s including her latest “Follow Me” which had a track featured on WXRT Local Anaesthetic. Little Miss Ann has played everywhere from Lollapalooza to Brooklyn to DC.

Mom & Tot Bowling

What: Monday – Fridays, Pinstripes has reserved a special Mom and Tot bowling hours from 10 am to 12 pm. Mom and Tot bowling available at Pinstripes Northbrook, South Barrington, Chicago and Oak Brook. Limit 4 children per adults. Age 12 and under.

Green City Farmers Market

What: Green City Market is a quintessential Lincoln Park farmers market! Green City Market provides a marketplace for purchasing sustainably grown food and connecting farmers and local producers directly to chefs and the greater Chicago community. In addition to produce, you will find bakery goods, jams, breads, cheese, pies and more!

This Lincoln Park outdoor market is loads of family fun! Grab a bike or walk to the market with the kiddos in tow. Find some fresh food to devour and kiddos can participate in Club Sprouts. At every market, kids can taste an in-season market item. Each taste test earns a stamp on their Club Sprouts membership card. Once the card is filled with 8 tastes, the child takes home a certificate of accomplishment and a special prize. The Club Sprouts table also offers fun, seasonal activities and lessons, from scavenger hunts, to hands-on recipes, so children can learn the benefits of eating fresh, healthy ingredients and supporting local farms.    

Date/Time: The market is outdoors May through October in Lincoln Park on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7 AM to 1 PM. Club Sprouts for kiddos are available at the Club Sprouts tent every Wednesday and Saturday from 8 AM to 12 PM.

Cost: Free to attend. Price varies by vendor to purchase produce, pastry and other items.

Bark in the Park 5K Walk

What: Saturday, May 21 marks The Anti-Cruelty Society’s 22nd annual 5k walk, Bark in the Park. We are thrilled to announce this year’s brand new location at the home of the Chicago Bears, Soldier Field! Enjoy sweeping skyline views as you stroll along Chicago’s famous lakefront path surrounded by fellow animal lovers and their canine companions. After the walk, enjoy a morning of fun and long-lasting memories with your pooch on the Stadium Green.

For the kiddos in tow, they will be able to test their own agility skills in a kid friendly obstacle course.

Family Festival at the Art Institute of Chicago

What: Don't lose your head at this Family Festival all about portraits! Get inspired by the museum's famous faces as you create your own self-portraits. Express your silly side with Storytown Improv children's theater and search for portraits in two special exhibitions, A Portrait of Antinous, in Two Parts and Van Dyck, Rembrandt, and the Portrait Print. This Festival has something fun for everyone, including The Little Studio for our youngest visitors (ages 5 and under).

Also included in the Fashion Forward art activity room, Comic Creator activity and more.

Tea with the Turtles

What: Celebrate World Turtle Day at the Nature Museum! Get up close and personal with all our resident turtles as well as several special guest species, and learn about how the Museum is working with the endangered Blanding’s Turtle in the Chicago region. Ask our experts anything about these enigmatic animals. Join in games, crafts, and art projects to show your love for turtles. This event is family friendly. Activities are appropriate for kids ages 2 and up. 

A light lunch is included in the ticket price. Tea will be provided by our friends at David's Tea.

FREE Lurie Garden Tour

What: We are in the garden during the warmer months and available to answer all your questions. Stop by our information tent to get your questions answered or take a short guided tour to learn about the Lurie Garden’s design and history, our perennial plants and the wildlife that fills the garden. 

Tours last approximately 20 minutes and depart every 15-20 minutes. No registration is required.

What: Each weekend we cook up projects that get kids and families wondering about the plants and the natural world. Family and Kids Yoga

What: Open to all ages! It is recommended that children are at least walking to be able to fully participate in this class, pre-walking siblings are always welcome to join their older siblings. Introduce yoga to your kids at a young age! Our family class incorporates breathing, dancing, partner poses, games, story time and relaxation so that the whole family can enjoy the benefits of yoga.

Concert for Kids at Beat Kitchen

What: Join Beat Kitchen, an eclectic bar and grill with a fun concert space in the back.
