19 Halloween Weekend Events for Chicago Kids - KidTrail Pick
Halloween weekend in Chicago does not mean you have to wait till Monday the 31st to enjoy Halloween.  You can start this Friday and continue the celebration to Halloween day. Saturday calls for warm weather with a high around 70 so make sure to enjoy the weekend with lots of Halloween fun.  This list has everything from a not so spooky haunted house to Fall Fest to free trick or treating. Whatever you decide to do, hope you have a spooktacular weekend! Enjoy!


Haunted House at Fosco Park

What: Fosco Park is hosting its annual Haunted House.  Come and have fun and get scared at the same time at this year's spooky and terrifying Haunted House. 

Recommended Age:  Age 3 and up

Family Costume Dance at Maggie Daley

What: Join the Halloween fun at this family friendly costume dance.

West Loop Families Halloween Parade & Trick or Treat

What: Festivities for this hugely popular event start at Mary Bartelme Park, where  fun & games will kick off the night. We then parade around the park before we embark in the neighborhood's largest trick-or-treating event on Madison Street. After some serious trick-or-treating, festivities will end at Brooklyn Boulders, where a not-too-scary party with activities for the kids and appetizers & drinks for parents will end the night. Lincoln Park Zoo Fall Fest 

What: Fall fest at Lincoln Park Zoo is country fun without leaving the city!  This 2nd annual fall festival features a variety of family fun activities across the main zoo grounds and at the Farm in the Zoo. This free family celebration features animal chats, musical entertainment, a pumpkin carver and fall-themed enrichment for the animals.

Attractions:  Corn Maze, Hay Mountain, Buy Pumpkins at Pumpkin Patch, Hay Ride, Ferris Wheel, Pumpkin Bounce House, Fun Slide, Pumpkin Carvers, Strolling Entertainers, Animal Chats and Learning Stations, Edible Garden, Sing Along By Neeleo, Educational Carts, Face Painting, Lionel Train Adventure, Inflatable Obstacle Course and Endangered Species Carousel.

River North 5th Annual Halloween Event

What: River North Residents Association will host its 5th annual Halloween Event on Saturday, October 29th from 2pm to 4pm in Montgomery Ward Park. Put on your costumes and come over for trick or treating in the park and pumpkin decorating.

Spooky Zoo Spectacular

What: Spooky Zoo Spectacular, hosted by the Auxiliary Board of Lincoln Park Zoo, is an opportunity for children to celebrate Halloween in a free, safe and family-friendly environment. Guests are invited to learn fun facts about the animals, stimulate their minds while making crafts, trick or treat and enjoy entertainment throughout the zoo while dressed in their best or spookiest costume!

Seadog Chicago Haunted River Tours

What: Experience the sights, lights, and frights of Chicago this Halloween! Through the month of October, discover Chicago’s spookier side aboard Seadog. Let our talented tour guides divulge the many secrets, spirits, scandals, and sins of the Windy City through spine tingling tales of mysterious supernatural occurrences and infamous figures along the beautiful Chicago River.

Enjoy one of the best views of the Chicago skyline from the Chicago River. This ride includes suspenseful commentary on the city of Chicago’s most haunting mysteries and legends. The tour is family-friendly but may contain sensitive content. Because Seadog is an open-air vessel, cruising is dependent on weather conditions.

This ride is not recommended for guests with conditions related to neck or back or who may be pregnant.

Clark Street Spooktacular

What: Spooktacular is Clark Street in Lincoln Park's annual Halloween extravaganza and this will be the 8th year the event is taking place! Participating businesses from Armitage to Diversey, and on the south side of Diversey from Orchard to Lakeview, open their doors to trick-or-treaters. There will be plenty of spooks and sweets for your whole family!

In addition to trick or treating, check out Scarecrows on Parade, which showcase Clark Street business owner's creative and artistic sides! Merchants display a scarecrow in their window that they have designed and created, and customers, pedestrians, and event attendees pick the winners!

 Here’s a wickedly wonderful way to celebrate Halloween in Chicago: take your crew of little ones out to Navy Pier for an afternoon of costumed cruising! Sample delicious bites, play on-board games and treat your sweet tooth. Stick around after the cruise, or come a little early, for trick-or-treating at the Pier.
