Teaching:
As both, a parent and a teacher, I would rate the teachers a 5+. They work extremely hard to provide a strong curriculum, guided play time, and are very caring. Both of my boys loved coming to preschool for that reason, they felt loved.
Handling Discipline:
All of the teachers were great with redirecting the students, talking calmly to the students, at eye level, to help them solve their problems.
Handling Conflicts:
The teachers have always been professional when dealing with conflicts and they make the kids understand how to try to be leaders within the classroom. They also communicate well with parents which also helps when dealing with any conflicts.
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this preschool

Teaching:
The teachers are amazing. We've seen such fantastic progress with our boys: one who has completed two years there, and the other just started in September. The curriculum is well-structured to be a daily reinforcement of the previous work. They leave the classroom to get additional instruction in music, drama, art, and the library. Plus, there are wonderful field trips.
Handling Discipline:
Discipline is firm, but nurturing. Never punitive.
Handling Conflicts:
The kids are taught to make choices, and to be empathetic.
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this preschool
Open Comments:
Highly, highly recommended! It may be more expensive than some other options, but you get what you pay for. This isn't babysitting. It's building the best foundation for all the learning they're about to embark on in K-12.

Teaching:
Curriculum is very hands on and is structure in monthly thematic units. It also focuses on the basics needed to enter kindergaten. Finally, kids enjoy a lot of field trips such as plays, symphonic orchestra, zoo and museums.
Handling Discipline:
Kids are taught about responsibility, social skills and empathy. Discipline is taken seriously but handled in a positive way.
Handling Conflicts:
Teachers use the wheel of choice to help kids resolve their conflict in an autonomous and positive manner.
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this preschool

Teaching:
The advantage Newberry has over many of the private preschools in the area (one of which our sons also happily attended before they were old enough for Newberry) is that because the children attend daily, the teacher is able to develop and teach a true curriculum. And she certainly has I am amazed at what my child learns every day. Examples include creating graphs with fun and age-appropriate data (how does everyone get to school, what is your favorite breakfast cereal, etc), learning to write through daily journal time, and performing science experiments in class. Because it is part of a Chicago Public School, the children also get to participate in specials classes, where they are exposed to music, drama, gym, art, and library.
Handling Discipline:
I have tried to emulate the discipline methods used at Newberry at home. They are grounded in positive interaction and clear expectations. The kids learn early on what is expected of them and are encouraged via positive reinforcement and reminders.
Handling Conflicts:
As with discipline, positive social interaction is always encouraged. The kids are urged to choose a way to cool down before then coming together to solve the conflict calmly.
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this preschool
Open Comments:
Our family's experience with preschool at Newberry has been nothing less than excellent. We currently have one son in attendance and two who have attended in the last several years. There are many other families we know who have also had multiple children attend, which I believe is a testament to the quality of the program. In addition to the traditional academic learning that goes on at Newberry (that somehow doesn't feel academic at allthey love every minute!), the classroom atmosphere also fosters social-emotional growth in the children. With a teacher and two aides in the classroom for much of the day, the student-teacher ratio provides the children with the attention they need. Routines, such as the morning drop-off routine, are clear and simple, and children are encouraged to complete them independently. Newberry Academy's preschool program is a hidden gem and I would recommend it to any family without hesitation.

Teaching:
Newberry Academy's pre-school program is one of a kind! My daughter had two amazing years there. We have researched and visited many available options in the Chicago area and hands down, this is the best experience parents can wish for their child. Ms. Amanda and the rest of the teachers are truly dedicated to raising well-rounded, caring and curious children. The best part about this pre-school is that in addition to providing kids with a safe place to play and have fun, it also has a very strong emphasis on academics, which was a must for us when we were researching schools. The writing journals, science experiments, math activities are excellent, and the extra-curriculum activities that Ms. Amanda engages kids in are just phenomenal. In what other school can you see pre-schoolers having filed trips to a symphony and theater.
Handling Discipline:
The classroom is a warm, environment and kids learn to be respectful and mindful of each other in a constructive way!
Handling Conflicts:
The do a great job working with the children and allowing the children to work on their emotional skill sets.
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this preschool

Teaching:
Newberry is absolutely amazing. The curriculum is outstanding. They have incredible lessons, including lots of great science experiments and activities. They have all the specials in the school including music, drama, gym, and library.
Handling Discipline:
The classroom is a warm, positive environment. Not only are the teachers genuinely caring, but the whole school environment is welcoming. Staff know the students and are always smiling.
Handling Conflicts:
In my experience, conflicts are rare because the classroom culture is very focused on helping children make good choices. I do think that if there were conflicts, they would be handled quickly and with the child's best interests in mind.
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this preschool
